Description of the Project
The Monument ‘12 Calles’ is located in the old part of the town, considered of cultural interest by the Ministry of Culture.
Urban planning of the ‘Doce Calles’ was conducted by Juan Bautista de Toledo in 1613; it should therefore be considered a continuation of the policy of Felipe II.
Restoration work carried out between 2011 and 2012 consisted of:
- Restoration of existing original parts of pilasters’ capitals, parapet copings and bollards, as well as making new ones when necessary, of the same stone and model as the original.
- Restoration of existing pilasters and replacement of missing ones according to original design.
- Continuous coating for finishing parapets with lime plaster of a shade similar to the original.
- Fence formed by two horizontal wooden beams embedded in the side pilasters that support the vertical bars of the fence.
- Changing the layout of the exit road, making it perpendicular to the roundabout .
- Restoration of gravity irrigation channels.
- Planting native species .
