Description of the Project
Work sponsored by the Bridge Port Authority of Barcelona.
A two-deck cable-stayed moveable bascule steel bridge with a 110m span. It is the bridge of its type with the largest span in Europe.
It connects Contradique and Adosado piers, 22 meters above the water level in the main navigation channel of the Port of Barcelona.
The bridge is the only connection between mainland and the pier Adosado, where the main cruiser terminals are located. It’s of the utmost importance as it carries a high flow of traffic all year round.
Industrial Area, part of the Mobility, Industrial and Cleaning Division of imesAPI won the STPA 2016 award for their professionalism and good work on the project, reference in the industry.
The works consisted in:
- Mounting and dismounting of scaffolding platform in the lower part of the bridge.
- A cleaning with water at high pressure (above 800 bar) projected by Hydroflow equipment of not less than 520 C.V., and guns of no less flow than 25 l/ min.
- Cleaning with water jet at very high pressure up to grade WJ-4.
- Patching with epoxy primer, with high solids content and a thickness of 50 microns.
- Application of a general layer of epoxy with high solids content and a thickness of 125 microns.
- Application of aliphatic polyurethane finish,50 microns thick.
